Running on Android 5.0 (Lollipop) with Xiaomi's custom MIUI 7 user interface, the phone comes in different memory configurations. Specifically, the Redmi Note 2 has 16GB of internal storage and 2GB of RAM, whereas the Prime version offers 32GB of internal storage with the same amount of RAM. The smartphone accepts microSD cards, up to 128 GB, via a dedicated slot, although this feature is specific to the Chinese version of the device.

Featuring a 5.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, the screen delivers a pixel density of 403 ppi and displays up to 16M colors. It maintains the traditional 16:9 aspect ratio and covers a screen-to-body ratio of 71.5%. For connectivity, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 supports Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP and LE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (dual-band with WiFi Direct and hotspot capability), microUSB 2.0 with USB On-The-Go, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, and an infrared port.

The main camera on the rear of the device is a 13 MP shooter with Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF), an aperture of f/2.2, LED flash, HDR, and panorama capabilities. It can record videos at a resolution of 1080p@30fps. The front-facing 'selfie' camera is a 5 MP sensor with an f/2.0 aperture, and it can capture videos at 720p resolution.

Additional features of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 include a stereo FM radio, a 3.5mm headphone jack, accelerometer, gyro, proximity, and compass sensors. Active noise cancellation with a dedicated mic enhances audio quality, while the plastic body of the phone is available in various colors: White, blue, yellow, pink, and mint green.

As for its multimedia performance, the Redmi Note 2 scored 48789 on the AnTuTu benchmark, suggesting a moderate capability to handle apps and games of the time. When originally launched, the smartphone retailed at around 160 EUR.
