Huawei has a habit of offering consumers curious smartphones. One of them is the Mate 30 Pro. The device successfully comes in place of the Mate 20 Pro and sits comfortably in place of the top models in Huawei's lineup.
Just a few minutes are enough to see that this smartphone has almost everything. It offers a large display, excellent performance, a high level of autonomous operation, more features and a quality camera at that. It fits the description of a modern flagship.
When the Mate 20 Pro hit the market, it took many by surprise. Its design was cardinally different from that of the Mate 10 Pro. With the new model - 30 Pro, there is no such decisive step. The design has been preserved. There is continuity. So the Mate 30 Pro retains the aesthetics of its predecessor and pleases with a familiar look.
At the top of the smartphone's display, we see a notch, which most manufacturers have recently been trying to get rid of. Huawei has decided that it is useful for now and will not remove it. As a result, the notch is there. If you are a fan of this fashion, this will please you. However, there is a change. The notch is smaller compared to the familiar one on the Mate 20 Pro. It now contains a gesture sensor, two cameras that measure the distance to objects, light and proximity sensors. The front-facing camera is also here.
The back of the smartphone is made of glass. The main attraction is the large camera block, which is made in the shape of a circle. It protrudes slightly from the housing and contains four lenses simultaneously. We know a similar arrangement of the cameras from the Mate 20 Pro. There, the place of the fourth module was occupied by a flash. Now, the latter is relocated closer to the upper left corner of the housing. Clever, isn't it?
The Mate 30 Pro features a 6.53-inch Huawei Horizon Display screen that curves around the sides. The company has used a Flex OLED matrix with a resolution of 2400x1176 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18.4:9. In keeping with Huawei tradition, the display resolution is not the maximum. The company keeps the balance between picture quality and autonomous operation of the smartphone.
The screen itself looks beautiful. The viewing angles are excellent. The manufacturing company states that 100% DCI-P3 color space support is available. Thanks to the curved display around the edges, there are no side bezels in the Mate 30 Pro. The top one is just 4.2mm and the bottom one is 4.8mm.
As in the Mate 20 Pro, here again we see an optical fingerprint scanner that is located directly in the display. It's located at the bottom of the front panel, and when it's triggered, a small area of the screen lights up strongly. This allows the sensor to count fingerprints. The technology itself works flawlessly and satisfactorily fast.
Facial recognition system
Huawei has always positioned the Mate series as a solution for more demanding users. Therefore, the Mate 30 Pro has not only a fingerprint scanner, but also a facial recognition system based on two 3D Depth cameras. It allows to scan the user's face in volume. The result is desirable. You can't cheat using photos or video. The system has a fairly wide viewing angle and works in low light. It works even if you are wearing glasses.
We mentioned above that Huawei has provided a gesture control system. It's built into the notch on the screen. It allows you to control some apps using hand gestures remotely. For example, you can more conveniently and quickly view photos in the gallery.
The Mate 30 Pro is the company's first smartphone to be based on the new Kirin 990 5G processor, which was announced a few weeks before IFA 2019. It is a 7nm system built on a 2-2-4 scheme. That is to say, it offers two Cortex-A76 performance cores running at 2.86 GH, two Cortex-A76 cores downscaled to 2.36 GHz and four Cortex A-55 power-efficient cores running at 1.95 GHz. A 16-core Mali-G76 accelerator is responsible for graphics processing in the Kirin 990 5G. In addition, this processor incorporates a 5G module. This makes the Mate 30 Pro the first smartphone on sale that is ready to run on autonomous 5G networks.
The RAM in the Mate 30 Pro is 8 GB and the built-in storage is 256 GB. The latter can be expanded using a memory card. Huawei, for your information, uses its own NM Card format.
A hybrid slot is placed in the smartphone. Therefore, the user has a choice. He can use two Nano SIM cards, or in place of the second to expand the memory.
The wireless modules in the Mate 30 Pro are represented by dual-band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5 and NFC.
The smartphone runs on Android 10 operating system with Huawei's proprietary EMUI 10 interface.
On the back panel of the Mate 30 Pro is a four-camera system. It differs from the one in the P30 Pro. How? It uses a 40-megapixel (27mm) SuperSensing wide-angle camera with a 1/1.54-inch large sensor, RYYB system, f/1.6 aperture, and optical stabilization. There's also a 40-megapixel (18mm) wide-angle Ultra-Wide Cine camera. It has a 1/1.7-inch sensor, f/1.8 aperture, RGGB system and electronic stabilization. The third module is an 8-megapixel telephoto camera with three times optical zoom, five times hybrid and 30 times digital. The last module in the Mate 30 Pro is the 3D Depth Sensing Camera, which measures the distance to objects, allowing to create a bokeh effect on portrait photos.
Huawei's efforts in terms of photo quality must be acknowledged. The company has thrown a lot of work into perfecting the shooting technology. The wide-angle module of the smartphone can record videos at ISO 51200 in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second with extended color range and slow-mo videos. In addition, the depth of the bokeh effect can be adjusted in real-time mode when recording video.
The built-in battery has a capacity of 4500 mAh. Huawei has provided support for 40W wired charging technology and 27W wireless charging technology. In addition, it has improved reverse wireless charging, which allows 3 times faster compared to Mate 20 Pro to charge accessories.
At this stage, the Mate 30 Pro is definitely the most feature-packed smartphone in Huawei's lineup. The device offers an interesting design, a powerful processor, a four-camera system, a large battery and advanced functionality.
