Apple iPhone 6 review

Some time ago Steve Jobs said that no one would buy big phones, but the future has shown that this is not exactly the case. In many stores, you'll easily find that 4.5-inch smartphones qualify as "mini." People want big phones because they're better at handling content. It was therefore not surprising when Apple launched the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the 5.5-inch 6 Plus. The American company has admitted its mistake and moved on with dignity.

Let's take a look at what the iPhone 6 offers us.  The model comes with pros and cons that most brand fans are well familiar with.

Design

The appearance of the iPhone 6, as always, provokes a lot of controversy over its uniqueness. The design of the model is not completely authentic, we see elements from the iPod Touch, a change in the gauges, etc.

That's not to say the iPhone 6 looks bad. On the contrary. Not only has Apple managed to preserve the continuity of the design, but they have also worked given the larger size of the device. You'll love the smooth lines of the case and its thickness - just 6.9mm. When the design is this simple and understandable, it practically does not irritate and can not bore you.

In this way, iPhone 6 is reminiscent of MacBook Air, whose design remains relevant today.

Despite the increased dimensions of the case to 138.1 x 67 mm, the layout of the keys is virtually unchanged. The only exception is the display power button. The latter still occupies most of the front panel. Apple has perfectly designed the ergonomics of the iPhone 6. If you're holding the device with your right hand, the unlock button falls right under your thumb. You can easily reach the volume control with your index finger.

The 67mm case width and rounded corners will appeal to many brand followers.

A person with an average sized hand will have no trouble reaching the top of the screen with their thumb.

Display

In the iPhone 6, the company has opted for a 4.7-inch IPS display with a non-standard resolution of 1334 x 750 pixels. The pixel density is 326 per inch. At Apple, the new display goes by the cute name Retina HD. At its core lies a technology that allows the screen's viewing angles to be widened. You won't notice any discolouration if you tilt the device. In addition, the colour rendering is excellent. The manufacturer claims full coverage of the SRGB color standard. The increased diagonal to 4.7 inches is compensated by a higher resolution - 1334 x 750 pixels.

Performance

Like the previous generation iPhone, Apple's new smartphone is based on the A8 system, which includes a dual-core ARMv8 64-bit processor clocked at 1.4 GHz, as well as quad-core PowerVR GX6650 graphics.

The A8 chip is built using a 20nm process technology. RAM is 1 GB. Despite the seemingly minimal memory, the device in everyday operation does not cause problems. All tasks are performed instantly. In tests, it even shows performance gains of up to 50% compared to the iPhone 5s.

The A8 chip is complemented by the so-called M8 co-processor, which calculates the user's steps without consuming much battery power for this purpose. This is important for the various fitness apps that are increasingly being used. Compared to the M7, in the M8 the developers have added the ability to not only count steps but also attacks. In this way, the iPhone 6 recognizes whether you are walking or climbing stairs.

Among the other device features of the iPhone 6, we should point out the presence of a barometer and an NFC chip. The latter should not be used to transfer data from device to device.

Storage in this iPhone model is 16, 64 or 128 GB. There is no possibility of expanding it. Apple continues to stubbornly ignore the memory card.

iOS 8

The arrival of the iPhone 6 on the market was also marked by a new mobile operating system, which bears the name iOS 8. It has a flat interface with bright colors. Visually, it looks super clean.

iMessage now provides the ability to send short voice messages. Moreover, the user can reply to incoming messages directly from the notifications.

With the release of iOS 8 in Apple have decided to focus on health care. Users have the Health app available which collects a variety of data about them.

Cameras

In iPhone 6, Apple has decided not to increase the resolution of the main iSight camera. It remains 8-megapixel. Phase autofocus has been added to the sensor. Sensors on the matrix capture fragments of light flow from different points of the image, which allows them to determine the focal length faster. As for the photos themselves, they're slightly better than the ones we know from the iPhone 5s.

What's actually improved significantly in iPhone 6? That's shooting video. You can record videos at 1080 resolution. A slow-motion mode has been added at 240 frames per second. Now the camera can also shoot timelapses.

The FaceTime HD camera is 1.2 MP and you can take decent selfies with its help.

Autonomous operation

iPhone 6 has a lithium polymer battery with a capacity of 1810 mAh. It is large enough for a day of full-time use of the device. The battery space has increased in proportion to the body.

If you decide to use the iPhone for continuous video watching, you can count on 9 hours and 30 minutes. For 3D gaming, that figure drops to 5 hours and 15 minutes.

Conclusion

As one would expect, Apple is steadily on the path to evolutionary smartphone development, not looking to force new usage patterns on consumers. That said, there are still no well-defined ideas for innovation. The good news is that the iPhone 6 is another quality device from the Cupertino company.

Some may be disappointed with the smartphone features. Others will be satisfied by keeping with tradition and delivering a better display, more power, an excellent camera, ergonomics, and materials of the highest quality craftsmanship.
