Design

In appearance, the new smartphone of the Nova series has received a typical solution. Visually, it differs little from its fellows. Huawei Nova 5T is solved in glass both on the front panel and on the rear. The frame is aluminum. As a result, the device looks premium, whether you hold it in your hand or it is placed on the table.

The corners of the smartphone are slightly rounded. Thus, the Huawei Nova 5T lies comfortably in your palm and can be operated with one hand without problems. On the front panel, we see the 6.26-inch screen with a round notch for the front camera. This is a common solution in the Nova series, which we also see here. It doesn't look bad. You could say it's more appropriate than a waterdrop-shaped notch.

The rear panel has got four sensors in the top right corner. They are on the main camera. The LED flash is there as well. You'll love the drawing on the back panel. It harmoniously blends into the sunlight. As you'll notice, there's no fingerprint scanner on the rear panel. This is because Huawei has placed it on the right side. On the left, on the other hand, is the slot for two nanoSIM cards. There is no microSD card slot.

The top of the Huawei Nova 5T is equipped with an infrared port. In terms of workmanship, there can be no criticism. Nor towards the materials from which this model of the Nova family is made. There are flaws in the design though. It is impossible not to note the absence of a 3.5 mm audio jack. For some, the placement of the fingerprint scanner may be inconvenient.

Screen

The Huawei Nova 5T offers, as already mentioned, a satisfyingly large 6.26-inch IPS screen. It has a Full HD+ resolution or 1080 x 2340 pixels.

The aspect ratio is 19.5:9. The pixel density - 412 ppi. The useful area occupied by the screen on the front is 84.2%.

The screen impresses with good brightness and viewing angles.

Performance

A key feature of the Huawei Nova 5T smartphone is its performance, as it has a flagship HiSilicon Kirin 980 processor. The chip is built on 7nm technology and has a maximum processor clock speed of 2.6 GHz. The latter works in conjunction with a Mali-G76 MP10 graphics chip. Additionally, the Nova 5T has received an advanced GPU Turbo 3.0 chip that allows to increase performance in games.

If you have the Huawei Nova 5T in hand, you can play at maximum graphics and you won't notice any slowdown. As for the risk of overheating, tests show that you will not have problems in this direction.

Operating system

The Huawei Nova 5T runs on Android 9.0 and the EMUI 9.1 user interface.

If you are already familiar with the company's devices, then you will experience no problems getting to grips with the smartphone. Everything is running stable. There are no irritating factors.

You get plenty of factory-installed apps that will come in handy in real life. But if you don't need them, delete them.

Cameras

The rear panel of the Huawei Nova 5T houses the four sensors of the main camera. The main one is a 48 MP IMX586 camera with f/1.8 aperture. The second sensor is a 16-megapixel with an f/2.2 aperture for ultra-wide shots. The third and fourth sensors are 2 MP with f/2.4 apertures for macro and bokeh shots.

On the front of the Huawei Nova 5T is a 32 MP camera with f/2.0 aperture that takes incredibly beautiful portrait shots.

The camera app provides the user with many features. So if you love taking pictures, then Huawei Nova 5T will delight you with all sorts of settings. The camera shoots quality during the day, creates images with good detail and beautiful colors. A night mode is also present.

Videos are captured in 4K at 30 frames per second. The main camera features gyro-EIS stabilization. As a result, videos are satisfyingly smooth.

Communications and sound

Huawei Nova 5T is equipped with a good wireless connection. It can accommodate 2 SIM cards on board with 4G LTE support for each of them. There is dual Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC is available, i.e. you can make contactless payments.

Additionally, the Huawei Nova 5T is equipped with A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, GALILEO, QZSS, which means you get fast device localization from satellites.

This Huawei model offers only one speaker at the bottom end. The volume is satisfactory. Unfortunately there is no stereo sound.

Autonomous operation

Under the Huawei Nova 5T's body, we find a battery with a capacity of 3750 mAh. The manufacturer has provided fast charging technology.

Tests show that this smartphone can provide you with about 1.5 days of intensive work or about 15 hours with the screen constantly on. This is a good modern indicator. With average use of the device, you may need to recharge every two days.

Fast charging technology is present in the Huawei Nova 5T with a 22.5W adapter. In 25 minutes, you will charge the battery from 0% to 50%.

Conclusion

If we refer Huawei Nova 5T to mid-range devices, it deserves your attention. If you are looking for a flagship level, then this model still has room for improvement to reach it.

The main features that impress are the performance and the cameras. Last but not least, the autonomous operation deserves applause, especially if you don't like to carry a charger with you.
