Intro

Huawei has been consistent in its ability to draw positive experiences from its competitor Samsung. The company has cleverly positioned its smartphones so as to make them stand out in the model-rich market. It pays serious attention to design and materials and creates devices that the user can easily spot. As we know, looks matter a lot to many. It is a way to express one's character and life attitude.

Before reading the full review, you can familiarize yourself with the detailed Huawei P10 specs or watch the video below the article.

The P series is positioned as one that includes smartphones with interesting and balanced features. They are designed for people who prefer modern features and place high demands on the camera. That is why the vast majority of models in the series are equipped with dual main cameras, in the development of which Leica engineers took part.

If the first smartphones of the series were far in quality from what the flagship models of competitors offer, the subsequent devices seriously corrected this. Huawei made a real breakthrough and in their dual cameras became super interesting. They shoot at the level of better analogues of other companies.

The Huawei p10 is a decent modern smartphone that can shoot beautifully. It is aimed at a wide range of users. It is made with quality and skillfully stands out against the background of other devices. It offers a typical set of features for everyday use.

Design

Take a look at the device. It is available in a variety of colour options. If the flagships of some companies are released in 2-3 colors, here we have a real feast of dyes.

The body of the Huawei p10 is monolithic. The back is made of aluminum and the front panel is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass with 2.5D effect. Since the smartphone doesn't come with an oleophobic screen coating, you have to be careful with hand marks on it. They stick quickly. We don't recommend carrying your Huawei p10 in your pocket or in a bag that also has your keys in the vicinity. You risk scratching both screen and back panel. It's a good idea to get a silicone case.

The dimensions of the smartphone are 145.3x69.3x6.98 mm. Its weight is satisfyingly low at 145 grams. You should keep in mind that Huawei p10 looks tiny for a 5-inch model. It lies nicely in the palm. In terms of its dimensions, you will not have any remarks.

Display

The display of Huawei p10 has a diagonal of 5.1 inches. The matrix is IPS with FullHD resolution. The pixel density is 432 per inch. There is automatic brightness adjustment. The screen provider is JDI, which means its quality is second to none. The maximum brightness in auto mode is 600 nits. It only comes into play when you are outdoors. The power-saving mode is aggressive - that is, most of the time the screen won't glow at maximum brightness. However, this will not make the information that is displayed on it unreadable.

A color temperature setting is provided for the screen. There is also a mode to protect against tired eyes. There is also a glove mode. When switched on, the screen becomes more sensitive to touch.

Performance

This model of Huawei is set on the HUAWEI Kirin 960 processor. It is octa-core. It consists of 4 Cortex A73 cores clocked at 2.4 GHz and another four Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz. The graphics accelerator is the Mali-G71 MP8. With 4 GB of RAM, this solution shows very good results in tests. The internal memory varies. You will find a modification with 32 or 64 GB. You need to consider your needs when buying one of the two. There is the possibility of inserting a microSD memory card.

Under load, the phone heats up perceptibly at the top. The processor starts not working as gently as you would like. You may notice a slight slowdown in the performance of the device.

Cameras

The front camera of the Huawei p10 is an 8-megapixel one. The manufacturer has provided beautifying filters, which the youthful audience will be very happy with. Technological revolutions you will not find. Everything that is typical for this class of smartphones is present.

Huawei p10 uses a second-generation Leica dual camera. It has two modules: a 12 MP color RGB sensor and a 20 MP monochrome sensor. The maximum aperture for both Summarit H lenses is f/2.2. The RGB sensor is responsible for colour rendering, while the monochrome sensor is responsible for detail. In this smartphone you also get optical image stabilization (OIS), hybrid autofocus combining phase, contrast and laser focus technology. Hybrid zoom is also available. This Leica camera is equipped with 3D technology for precise facial recognition, natural blemish removal tools and a dynamic lighting feature.

In everyday life, the camera takes excellent pictures, especially in sufficient light levels.

When recording video, expect 4K at 30 frames per second. For FullHD, the rate amounts to 60 frames per second.

Autonomous operation

The built-in Li-Ion battery has a capacity of 3200 mAh. SuperCharge (5V/4.5A; 4.5V/5A; 5V/2A) is supported. It supports the ability to charge the battery up to 60% in just half an hour. In an hour and 10 minutes, the charge reaches 100%. Under normal load you have a full day of autonomous operation available. If you are more frugal, you can count on two days.

Want to watch HD video uninterrupted? Then you'll be able to enjoy it for about 11.5 hours at maximum screen brightness.

Conclusion

Huawei p10 is a smartphone that deserves the attention of users who are interested in taking quality photos and videos. The model has gotten a hit in terms and fast charging, autonomous operation, sound and design. Don't perceive the Huawei p10 as an update to the predecessor p9. This is a brand new model that can be compared to the Mate 9.

The streamlined shapes of the smartphone combined with the graceful curves and rounded edges create a pleasant impression on the user. No part of the housing is slippery: you can reliably hold the device in your hand. This point is excellently solved by Huawei.

The fingerprint scanner works quickly and correctly. You can place your finger at any angle. The technology recognizes up to 5 fingers.

Pros:

  • Elegant and slim body;
  • Compact size;
  • Excellent level of performance for this class of devices, not even inferior to many flagships;
  • Cost-effective hardware platform;
  • Satisfactory photo quality.

Cons:

  • Could be asking for more from the autonomous operation;
  • Be sure to equip it with a protective case.
