Huawei P30 review

In the new generation of the P series, the company continued to improve the camera and specifically the zoom. In the P20, users didn't get a telephoto lens and the P20 Pro amazes with 3x optical and 5x hybrid zoom. That's exactly the performance the P30 has now, and with the P30 Pro, the company has even gone for 5x optical and 10x hybrid zoom.

What's the task ahead for the P30? It's a smartphone that steps into the role of a bargain device compared to its predecessor with Pro in the name. In terms of camera features, it is not inferior to it.

Design

The Huawei P30 is visibly different in design from the P30 Pro. However, the differences are on the positive side. First, the device is smaller and lighter. This means you'll be more comfortable working with it. It fits perfectly in the palm of your hand. Second, it doesn't have those pointy side elements from the Pro version.

The P30 is a beautiful glass smartphone with a gracefully shaped metal frame that rests gently on the sides. The back panel is characterized not only by its gradient blending of worlds, but also by its texture. The pads under the glass iridesce as if there is liquid metal underneath. The effect is pleasing and has cost the developers quite a bit of effort.

The result is a pleasingly small and not heavy smartphone with comfortable dimensions and weight. The look is attractive and distinctive for the market. With the P30, we also see the fingerprint scanner move from the rear panel to the front. It is located under the display glass.

Display

The Huawei P30 is equipped with a 6.1-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2340×1080. It is covered with 3D Gorilla Glass. The physical dimensions of the screen are 65x141 mm with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The pixel density is 422 ppi. The bezel around the screen is 3 mm wide at the sides, 4 mm wide at the bottom and 3 mm wide at the top.

The front of the screen is made in the form of a mirror-smooth, scratch-resistant glass plate. The anti-reflection properties of the screen are at an excellent level.

There is a special oleophobic coating on the screen surface of the Huawei P30. It helps the user to effortlessly remove fingerprints after handling the phone.

Camera

The front camera of the P30 is the same as the Pro-version. The 34 MP sensor module has an f/2.0 aperture lens without autofocus. Even with one module, this camera handles its tasks decently. On the screen of the smartphone itself, the detail and sharpness impress, the color rendering is generally in the norm. The camera will not let you down even in low light. Its capabilities will please most fans of mobile photography.

The camera application interface at Huawei traditionally offers a rich set of options. If you bet on this model, you get artificial intelligence support, manual mode with the ability to save photos in RAW format, portrait background blur mode, monochrome and a bunch of other diverse scene modes.

Let's also pay attention to the main rear camera module. It features a 40-megapixel sensor with an f/1.8 aperture lens. The sensor, which bears the name Super Spectrum, has an unusual structure of subpixels on the matrix: red, yellow (twice as many in number) and blue - RYYB. This array is designed to ensure quality camera performance in low-light conditions.

According to the phone makers' assurances, this matrix captures 40% more light in low-light conditions.

From the camera interface, it is implied that users will mainly shoot in 10 MP resolution. This parameter is set by default. The 40 MP resolution is hidden from view. You have to manually select it in the settings.

The second module is 120-degree, wide-angle. It has a 16-megapixel sensor, an f/2.2 aperture lens and is equipped with autofocus. With its help, the P30 also shoots in supermacro mode.

The third module acts as a telephoto lens. It is a 10-megapixel with an f/2.4 aperture lens. The lens itself allows users to realize practically threefold optical zoom, fivefold "hybrid" and 30fold digital.

Love shooting video with your smartphone? Then you should know that the P30's camera shoots in maximum 4K at 30 fps or 1080p at 60 fps. Digital stabilization is available.

Performance

As the hardware platform in Huawei P30, the manufacturer has put the Huawei Kirin 980 SoC made using 7nm process. The SoC configuration includes three CPU clusters: two Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.6 GHz, two more of the same cores clocked at 1.9 GHz, and four Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz. The Mali-G76 MP10 GPU is responsible for graphics performance.

RAM is 6 or 8 GB and storage is 64, 128 or 256 GB depending on the configuration. The microSD memory card is not supported, only the proprietary Huawei NM. USB Type-C (USB OTG) port is provided.

Huawei Kirin 980 is the top hardware platform, it is very powerful. In tests, it shows that it is inferior only to Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and Samsung Exynos 9820.

In practice, if you use this Huawei phone, you'll find that the platform confidently handles all sorts of tasks and the toughest games.

Autonomous operation

The Huawei P30 offers a 3650 mAh battery. Slightly less than what is provided on the Pro-version. Overall, the level of autonomous work is decent considering the capabilities of the average smartphone on the market. The Huawei P30 will confidently give you a day's worth of work before you need to recharge it.

The device supports 12W reversible wireless charging. The former means that the user can share its charge with smart devices, accessories and other cordless phones having the similar feature. For this, the option needs to be enabled from the settings.

The battery capacity of the Huawei P30 is enough for 20 hours of video playback, 34 hours of web browsing and 27 hours of active calls.

Conclusion

This Huawei model has turned out gorgeous as far as design, gauge specs, screen and hardware platform are concerned. It offers the user an interesting set of cameras that take superb pictures. Here is the time to mention that is the sound quality is up to the mark.
