Design

The Huawei Y6 2019 looks contemporary and immediately impresses with its large screen with elongated proportions, rounded corners and a drop-shaped notch. These are all elements that are in the spirit of recent trends.

The bezels around the display are thicker compared to flagship models. However, this is not a critical "deviation". Above the screen we see a column, a front camera and a light indicator. Underneath is the Huawei logo. The entire housing is made of plastic. The back is glossy. As for the model dressed in black, it looks wonderful. The blue one is completely matte, while the brown one has a back panel styled with faux leather. We're not convinced of the ergonomics and longevity of this solution, but it looks very stylish.

The Huawei Y6 2019 offers a 3.5mm headphone port and the well-known MicroUSB for charging.

The ports and buttons are typically located for modern inexpensive smartphones. The buttons are on the right and the slots on the left. On the top and bottom edge we have speakers, microphones and ports.

Display

When looking at the Huawei Y6 2019, you should appreciate that it is equipped with a 6.09-inch IPS screen. The aspect ratio is 19.5:9, it has rounded corners, a teardrop notch and a resolution of 1560x720 pixels. The pixel density is 282 ppi. As you notice, the resolution is modest at this screen diagonal, but for a budget model it's perfectly satisfactory. Good news is the presence of a protective screen coating.

In itself, the screen of the Huawei Y6 2019 is not bad as quality. Only the resolution makes an impression. The brightness margin is not bad. The user will have no problem deciphering the information on the display. In the screen settings, you can adjust the color temperature. The manufacturer has provided three ready-made modes and a manual setting.

Thanks to the use of a drop-shaped notch and not the thickest bottom bezel, the display occupies 79.2% of the front panel area. This is an excellent indicator for a smartphone belonging to the budget sector. In comparison, the iPhone XR has a metric equal to exactly 79%. This Apple model costs to 5 times more.

Performance

One of the not so strong points of the Huawei Y6 2019 is performance. The manufacturing company has opted for a processor belonging to the budget models of MediaTek. We are talking about MediaTek MT6761 Helio A22 (12 nm) (the same as in the Redmi 6A model). It includes four 2 GHz ARM Cortex-A53 cores and a PowerVR GE8320 graphics accelerator. RAM is 2 GB and internal memory is 32 GB.

The above specs are enough for smooth email, social networking and web browsing. Applications work adequately. The interface is not lightning fast, but offers satisfactory speed. If you're going to play games, don't go for the heavy ones. To ease the gaming process, choose the lowest graphics settings.

NFC is absent in the Huawei Y6 2019. It doesn't use MicroUSB for charging. You can use 2 SIM cards or replace one of them with a microSD memory card.

To protect your data from prying eyes, the company has provided a facial recognition system, but no fingerprint scanner. It work using the main camera.

Interface and operating system

The Huawei Y6 2019 runs on the factory Android 9 Pie operating system, which is up-to-date for its time, coupled with the EMUI 9 interface. Overall, this is a familiar solution from previous versions. There are no cardinal changes. The interface has been completely redrawn. There are a bunch of curious proprietary apps and settings that benefit users. Everything works stable, but it can not be said that "flies". After all, this is a budget model.

Camera

With the cameras of the Huawei Y6, we are not expecting anything beyond the traditional that we see in 2019. The model follows the most sought-after features and, relative to its price, offers a combination of options. Thus, the main camera of the Huawei Y6 2019 is single - 13 MP with an aperture of f/1.8. No additional or unique capabilities are provided. In good light, the camera will handle its tasks perfectly. In conditions of less light, you will make sure that you have a budget phone in your hands. The aperture doesn't really improve the situation.

The front camera is 8-megapixel. It has a selfie-toning flash. Video recording is at a maximum resolution of 1080 pixels at 30 frames per second. Stabilization is absent.

The camera interface has traditionally been slightly redesigned. The main shooting modes are just a few: photo, video, beautifier and additional modes - HDR, panorama and manual mode. In other words, plenty for people who have no interest in mobile photography or are taking their first steps.

Autonomous operation

The smartphone is powered by a 3020 mAh battery. Given the small screen resolution and modest performance of the Huawei Y6 2019, the battery provides good autonomous operation. In everyday work (calls, Internet use, e-mail, social networks), the smartphone is capable of working a day and a half on a single charge. If you bother with shooting and playing, then you will need to recharge earlier. The company's battery saver and Digital Balance apps are quite useful. They'll help extend your phone's life by up to two days.

Conclusion

In creating its Y6 2019, Huawei has definitely focused on balance. The model is the typical budget smartphone that's worth the money if you're looking for a device for a child or an undemanding adult. The device looks contemporary and its display is satisfyingly large. Simultaneous operation of 2 SIM cards and a memory card is supported. The smartphone runs the latest version of Android. Considering the price, asking for more from this model is unrealistic. On the other hand, you can find models in the market at relatively the same price that offer you a fingerprint scanner.

Pros:

  • Large screen with not bad calibration;
  • Up-to-date appearance;
  • Separate slots for 2 SIM cards and a MicroSD memory card;
  • Attractively low price.

Minuses:

  • Low performance;
  • Absence of fingerprint scanner;
  • Weak camera;
  • Absence of NFC;
  • MicroUSB Availability.
