Intro

Oppo is focusing on the niche market of compact and stylish phones with foldable OLED displays with the introduction of the charming Find N2. The previous Find N was already the smallest and lightest vertically foldable phone, but Oppo improved the design even further by eliminating the visible hinge gap.

The new foldable phone is even more compact and faster than its predecessor. Additionally, it tries to address the main problem with foldable phones, which is their camera hardware. Has Oppo managed to make foldable phones practical for everyday use? Let's take a look.

Design

The Oppo Find N2 has 38 fewer moving parts than its predecessor, making it more visually appealing. This allows the fold of the foldable display to be 67% smaller than the already minimal fold of the Find N. The hinge offers an unlimited range of positions between 45-125 degrees, allowing different modes such as tent shape, flat display or something else in FreeForm mode on Find N2. The Flexion Hinge is certified for durability by TUV, having passed 400,000 opening and closing cycles.

Display

The main 7.1-inch display is equipped with all the latest high-quality screen features, including a high resolution of 1920 x 1792, a dynamic refresh rate of 1Hz to 120Hz depending on the content, wide color gamut coverage, HDR10 certification and peak brightness of 1550 nits.

The 5.54-inch external display also boasts these features, except for a fixed high refresh rate. Oppo emphasizes that despite its smaller size compared to the Z Fold 4's 6.2-inch panel, it has a wider aspect ratio and is more comfortable to type on. In addition, the 120 Hz screen has an impressively high peak brightness of 1350 nits, suitable for quick glances on the go.

The Find N2's main screen displays exceptional image quality. It's one of the brightest, not just among flip phones, doing great when used in bright sunlight.

As is typical of Oppo, the phone has undergone factory calibration for each unit, resulting in one of the most accurate colors in displays with a near-perfect white balance compared to the reference point. This is a challenge even for OLED panel leaders like Samsung. In conclusion, Oppo has done an excellent job with the Find N2, creating the best foldable display on a smartphone to date.

Cameras

Oppo is known for its outstanding mobile photography technology, and with the Find N2, it takes it to the next level. The Find N2 features an improved telephoto and ultra-short-focus camera, as well as a main camera that's based on a Sony sensor. It also has two identical selfie cameras that cut a hole in one of the displays. Thanks to the collaboration with Hasselblad, the Find N2 offers excellent colors and advanced processing capabilities.

Oppo Find N2's ultra-wide-angle camera is enhanced with a Sony IMX581 Quad Bayer sensor. It has 1/2.0" and 0.8µm pixels, making it ideal for capturing stunning wide-angle shots. The lens has a 14mm equivalent focal length and f/2.2 aperture, making it ideal for close-ups plans and flexible framing.

While the telephoto camera still has a 2x zoom, it now features a larger 1/2.74". The 32-megapixel Sony IMX709 sensor features an RGBW color filter and 4-to-1 pixel binning, creating 8 -megapixel images While it may not be as powerful as the Find N's 13MP telephoto camera, it still produces excellent photos in daylight.

The main camera of the Oppo Find N2 is based on a 1/1.56" Sony sensor, with 1.0µm pixels. The camera uses a quad-core Bayer filter and produces 12.5MP images by default. The lens has an equivalent focal length of 24mm and an aperture of f/1.8, making it ideal for capturing high-quality photos The Marisilicon X NPU image processing processor handles the data streams, making it ideal for HDR and low-light video.

The Find N2 features two identical selfie cameras that cut a hole in one of the displays. The cameras are 32MP and are no longer the Sony-based devices from the Find N, but from Samsung. The JD1 tetrapixel sensor has a 1/3.14" optical format and 0.7µm pixels and is placed behind a fixed-focus lens with a 22mm f/2.4 equivalent.

Productivity and software

The Find N2 is equipped with an overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ processor common in gaming phones, putting it on par with other fast foldables. The phone's memory configurations, including 12GB / 256GB or 16GB / 512GB, provide enough power for multitasking and using various applications on the main display.

The Oppo has built-in multitasking features on a split screen for optimal use of the main panel, and typing on the keyboard on the external display is a more pleasant experience compared to other foldables with narrow-lid displays.

Battery

Find N2 is equipped with a 4520mAh battery that can be fully charged in just 42 minutes using a 67W SuperVOOC charger, reaching 37% in just 10 minutes. While it's not as fast as Oppo's record-breaking 240W charging or the OnePlus 11's 100W charging, it's still faster than the charging speed of its main competitor, the Samsung Z Fold 4. However, while the Find's battery life The N2 is comparable to the Z Fold 4, gaming sessions are limited to around 5 hours due to the high demands of 3D rendering on the large main display.

Conclusion

Despite its sleek design and premium features, the Oppo Find N2 is affordable for a foldable phone, starting at $1,150 for the 256GB model and $1,290 for the 512GB option. Oppo hasn't added any extra cost for the Flexion Hinge, which makes the phone even lighter and with a barely noticeable fold, or for the improved processor and camera, not to mention the exceptional screen quality.

The Oppo Find N2 is not only affordable, but is now considered the best vertically folding phone on the market, surpassing even its main competitor, the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Despite its lower price, the Find N2 offers a superior design, with a thinner and a lighter body, almost invisible crease and ergonomic design. The Galaxy Z Fold 4, by comparison, looks dated with a larger hinge gap and a more prominent fold, as well as less aesthetic and less user-friendly.

  • Good picture and video quality
