Samsung Galaxy A10s Review

At one point, Samsung rethought its approach to its smartphone lineup in the mid- and budget-price range. The devices got a more understandable naming system and a not bad price/performance ratio. Thus, its mercy Galaxy A10s appeared on the market.

In appearance, the Galaxy A10s practically completely repeats the original Galaxy A10. You'll find it in three pleasing colour choices: blue, red and black. Immediately striking is the presence of a fingerprint scanner on the rear panel. That's exactly what the Galaxy A10 lacked. The scanner works quickly, but not lightning fast. Secondly, attention is riveted by the additional camera module.

Here we don't find many changes. The Galaxy A10s uses a 6.2-inch PLS TFT LCD display with a resolution of 1520x720 pixels. The color quality is at an acceptable level, the brightness is satisfactory, and the HD resolution is acceptable for a budget device.

In the display settings, you can activate a dark theme, select one of several navigation panel options, turn on protection against accidental taps, change the font, etc. The oleophobic coating won't save you from fingerprints on the screen, but it does help clear them quickly.

The cute Galaxy A10s isn't equipped with a proprietary Exynos chipset that we know from the Galaxy A10, but with MediaTek's solution - the Helio P22 chip. The RAM is 2 GB and the internal memory is 32 GB. The operating system is Android 9 Pie combined with One UI. The smartphone is also equipped with Wi-Fi modules (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS. NFC module for contactless payments is absent.

The main camera of the Galaxy A10s consists of 2 modules: a 13-megapixel with an aperture of f/1.8 and a 2-megapixel depth-sensing with an aperture of f/2.4. The camera app doesn't abound with settings, but shooting modes professional, panoramic, dynamic focus and more are provided.

The front-facing camera is an 8-megapixel with f/2.0. It is tasked with facial recognition of the camera owner. Unlocking works precisely and quickly, as long as it's not dark around you.

The photo quality is expected for a smartphone of this price range. During daylight hours, you can get not bad shots.

Autonomous operation

We come to one of the important issues when it comes to smartphones. This is the autonomous operation. Among the improvements in the Galaxy A10s, adding the fingerprint scanner, is the bigger battery. It has a capacity of 4000 mAh. In comparison, the Galaxy A10 only has 3400 mAh. That's a substantial increment that guarantees you up to two days of use under average load before needing a recharge. This good result is also due to the low screen resolution as well as the not very powerful chipset.

You won't find support for fast charging technology in the Galaxy A10s.

Finally, we have to say that the Galaxy A10s has received several improvements compared to its predecessor. However, the weak hardware platform and only 2 GB of RAM are capable of spoiling a good impression. Of course, a lot depends on what the user's needs are. So let's remind what they are:

The pros:

  • Quality workmanship;
  • Satisfactory autonomous operation;
  • Fast and reliable fingerprint scanner;
  • Attractive price.

  • Absence of NFC;
  • Little RAM.
