Samsung Galaxy A20e review

In March 2019, the South Korean company Samsung introduced the curious Galaxy A20 model, which offered a 6.4-inch Infinity-V display made with Super AMOLED technology. A month after this premiere, the manufacturer decided to please consumers who prefer more compact and inexpensive devices. Thus, along with the presentation of the Galaxy A70 and A80 models, the South Korean company also presented the budget smartphone in the same series - Galaxy A20e. It has a lot to show and it is its merits that we will pay attention to in the following lines.

Are you ready for a new phone? Why not the Galaxy A20e?

Right off the bat, we'll mention that the Galaxy A20e offers a USB-C port, the much-appreciated 3.5mm headphone jack, a memory card slot up to 512GB (for lots of photos and videos), a fingerprint scanner, Bixby voice assistant support, fast charging technology, and NFC support.

Design

The compact Galaxy A20e impresses with its subtle touches. It is just 8.4 mm thick. It lies comfortably in the palm and allows one-handed operation. Its design is elegant and stylish. Beautiful curves contribute to falling in love at first sight.

The model is available in several colours: black, white, blue and coral. The choice of colour is entirely up to the user's preference. The casing is plastic, but looks like metal and has an attractive mirrored surface.

The fingerprint scanner in the Galaxy A20e , unlike older models in the series, is located on the rear panel of the device.

Interesting fact: unlike the other Galaxy models released in the same year, the Galaxy A20e does not feature an LED indicator. In addition, the device does not offer the practical for many Always On Display mode. This means you have no way of knowing if you've missed something until you've been near your phone. You can only know if you turn on the screen. There is an option in the settings that can reduce the downside of no LED indicator and the said mode. With Smart Alert, your smartphone will vibrate when you pick it up after a missed message or call. Clever!

Display

The Galaxy A20e features a quality 5.8-inch IPS Infinity-V display with a resolution of 1560 x 720 pixels and a small teardrop-shaped notch for the selfie camera at the top.

The display of the smartphone has an enviable aspect ratio of 19.5:9. This portends maximum satisfaction when gaming and watching videos.

We have to be honest. The screen diagonal of the Galaxy A20e is noticeably smaller than the other devices in the series. As a consequence, you can comfortably grasp it with one hand. Its dimensions won't give the feeling that you might drop it. The resolution ensures acceptable image expressiveness.

Performance

The Galaxy A20e houses an Exynos 7884 processor running with the support of 3 GB of RAM. Built-in storage is 32 GB, which can be expanded using a microSD memory card up to 512 GB. This is good news for any user who insists on having stacks of travel photos and memorable events at their disposal.

In everyday use, the Galaxy A20e performs well. However, you should know that it wasn't intended by its developers to be a gaming phone. If you want to enjoy heavy gaming, you won't be able to with this device.

Unlock

In the Galaxy A20e, we see a fingerprint scanner that works quickly and adequately. It's easy to get used to its layout. Literally after a few days your fingers find it even in the dark.

Another way to unlock the Galaxy A20e is by relying on facial recognition. This method is not as secure and foolproof as the previous one. Moreover, it struggles to work in dark conditions.

We advise you to stick to the fingerprint scanner. It will more securely guard your personal data.

Operating system

Factory-wise, the smartphone runs on Android 9 Pie operating system coupled with One UI glory interface.

In keeping with current trends, you'll find various themes in the Galaxy A20e. For example, Dark.

Cameras

The main camera in the Galaxy A20e consists of two sensors. The main one has a 13MP resolution (f/1.9), and the auxiliary one is a 5-megapixel with an f/2.2 aperture. The latter is ultra-wide. The field of view covers 123 degrees - just as far as the human eye.

The front camera is represented by a single sensor - 8 MP (f2.0). It features a curious mode - Smart Beauty. With its help, your selfies will be superb.

Samsung has made sure that the fun doesn't have a break. The user can add stickers to his photos and, of course, many fun filters are available. In other words, with the Galaxy A20e in hand unleash your creativity.

Autonomous operation

The battery capacity of the Galaxy A20e is 3000 mAh. 15W fast charging technology is supported. Tests show that the device is capable of serving a full day. And thanks to the charger, recharging is quick and imperceptibly easy.

Samsung has provided battery saving options. For example, you can turn on a dark theme or power-saving mode for this purpose. Both options are effective.

Communications

The Galaxy A20e supports 3G and 4G. There is a built-in GPS receiver in this smartphone. With the help of the satellite navigation system, the exact geographical position of the Earth can be determined. In addition, the device comes with Near Field Communications (NFC) feature to transfer content to other NFC-enabled devices. Galaxy A20e also offers FM radio.

Conclusion

The Galaxy A20e is yet another temptation for the consumer. It catches the eye with its design, price and a screen that is almost bezel-less. The ergonomics help in quick selection and the speed of the fingerprint scanner is impressive. The processor is up to par, as are the cameras.

Pros:

Strongly in favor of buying the Galaxy A20e speak:

  • The compact design;
  • The excellent autonomy;
  • Supports 2 SIM card operation;
  • Fast and accurate fingerprint scanner;
  • The good quality of photos taken during daylight hours.

Cons:

What may discourage you and provoke you to look for alternative solutions are:

  • The hardware is not the most powerful to date;
  • The resolution of the ultra-wide camera is low;
  • The housing is not waterproof;
  • The device is quite a bit cheaper than the Galaxy A40.
