Samsung Galaxy A71 review

Definitely the flagships of the South Korean company Samsung are more discussed than its other devices, which are offered at a more affordable price. However, not every person demands maximum features from their phone. Neither is looking to pay more for something they won't. In this case, consumers are gravitating towards the mid-range. To this family belongs the Galaxy A71 model. It's not expensive, it's cute to look at and it offers everything that a mid-range phone is destined to have.

The Galaxy A71 premiered in early 2020. The device is equipped with a Super AMOLED screen with a built-in fingerprint scanner, cameras with excellent resolution and a powerful Snapdragon processor. You can find out what other features this model is equipped with in the following lines. We will pay attention to the pros and cons, because, you know, in the name of affordable price the manufacturer has to cut some parameters.

Design

This model of Samsung definitely continues the spirit of development of the company in recent years. The lines on the body of the Galaxy A71 create a feeling of bulkiness and different planes. The play with colors depending on the light level in the environment continues to keep the look of the device un-boring. The user can choose between several colour options - sky blue, silver and black.

We advise that to keep the Galaxy A71's body intact, you equip it with a suitable case promptly. Otherwise, its glossy back will get scratched.

The phone is satisfyingly thin. You can hold it comfortably with one hand. It is not heavy at all. The body frame and also the back surface are made of plastic.

Scanners

The fingerprint scanner embedded in the screen does not work super fast, but it does the job. You can bet on the facial recognition technology. It works with the front camera. It represents a less reliable approach to privacy protection, but it's somewhat of an alternative.

Display

The vogue of large notches is going away. What do we see with the Galaxy A71? It's got a huge 6.7-inch display with a small gap for the front camera. The resolution is 2400 x 1080 pixels. The aspect ratio is 20:9.

The bezels of the Galaxy A71 are not large. The gap at the top and bottom is slightly larger, which is immediately noticeable, but not a minus. Good news is the presence of a protective layer. At first it will protect the screen from damage. Yes, it's not high-end, but it's an acquisition that no one will refuse.

As for the image quality, the manufacturer has bet on AMOLED technology with all its pros and cons. Among the latter, for example, is that the eyes get tired if you have the habit of reading at night or watching videos. And the pros are the contrast and bright picture. The black colour is ideal.

The company's Always-on Display technology is available in the Galaxy A71. You can adjust what information is displayed when the device has the screen locked. This is definitely one of the favorite features of Samsung fans.

Performance

This mid-range smartphone is based on a Snapdragon 730 processor coupled with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. There is an option to increase the memory. Adreno 618 accelerator is responsible for graphics processing. It is at an average level, quite expected for a non-flagship model.

If you remember, we know a similar chip from the Galaxy A80 model. There, tests showed that the performance was on par for gaming, but you shouldn't throw in the too graphics-demanding among them.

This is the time to add that in the Galaxy A71 we see modern Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX support, there's NFC and Samsung Pay. The South Korean company has kept the 3.5mm audio jack.

Camera

The Galaxy A71 is an example that cameras in modern phones are constantly evolving. Samsung has bet on a single playground with modules located on it. It rises slightly from the base of the body.  We recommend cleaning the lens from time to time, as it is possible that you have "smudged" it with your fingers.

The camera unit contains four modules. The main one is a 64 MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture. By default, it shoots in 16-megapixel mode. Additionally, you get a 12-megapixel wide-angle module (f/2.2), a 5-megapixel macro camera (f/2.4) and a 5-megapixel depth-sensing sensor (f/2.2).  The fourth module does an excellent job of blurring the background of portrait shots.

The front-facing camera is 32 MP and f/2.2 resolution. Fans of selfies will be pleased. It has one feature - HDR.

The main module achieves satisfactory quality and detailed photos with not bad color rendering. In conditions of lack of sufficient light, it is desirable to resort to the use of night mode. This will preserve considerably more detail. The amount of noise will be minimized.

As for the wide-angle module, like what we see in other mid-range phones, it is of mediocre quality. During the day, you'll take some pretty good photos. However, in tricky conditions, some correction elements will be visible. To get excellent shots, make sure you have enough light.

With the Galaxy A71 in hand, the user can shoot videos at 30 frames per second.

Autonomous operation

The Galaxy A71 has a large screen. This necessitates a large battery. Its capacity is 4500 mAh. Quite enough for a full day of active use. Fast charging technology also comes to the rescue. After only 30 minutes you will have a 30% battery charge.

Conclusion

Samsung Galaxy A71 will leave most users with pleasant impressions. The device looks modern and stylish. After all, it is a representative of the Galaxy family. Its performance is up to par (even flagship at times) to perform most tasks without a hitch. The camera is capable of taking quality pictures and with practice you will get better results. Ones that social networks will be excited about. The battery provides a satisfactory amount of battery life. We rate according to the standards for this class.

  • Allows 2 SIM card operation;
  • Almost frameless screen;
