Samsung Galaxy J1 Ace review

Every year, the South Korean company Samsung spoils consumers not only with advanced flagships. Regularly it launches on the market quite appetizing budget smartphones, from the so-called "for beginners". One of them bears the name Galaxy J1 Ace. It is made in the brand's typical Galaxy design and is something in between the simultaneous flagships S2 and S3. Galaxy J1 Ace is available in three colors - black, blue and white. Its performance is not the highest by today's standards, but for a device at such a price it is somewhat logical. In its typical style, Samsung has equipped the device with balanced features that make it an attractive choice for people who aren't looking for expensive models.

Design

At first glance, it is noticeable that the Galaxy J1 Ace has a simple yet elegant design. It has a monoblock body. The smooth contours of the body with rounded corners perfectly harmonize with its transparent edges made of glass. The device has a cute look. Moreover, it fits nicely on the palm and predisposes to long hours of interaction.

Its dimensions (130.1 x 67.6 x 9.5) suggest that it is comfortable to carry. You can tuck it into your pants pocket without a problem. Its weight of 128 grams makes it suitable for use by children. In the bag, it doesn't even feel like it's there.

With the help of a spectacular case, you'll turn the unassuming-looking Galaxy J1 Ace into a wonderful companion in your every day.

Display

Amid modest specs, the Galaxy J1 Ace's display stands out. Although it has a small resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, at 4.3 inches diagonal, it's built with SuperAMOLED technology. The pixel density per inch is 217. Such a screen was once equipped with the company's flagships. The Galaxy S2 is an excellent example.

The picture on the Galaxy J1 Ace screen looks nice. The colours are realistic. The viewing angles are not ideal. When tilting the device, there is no deterioration in image quality. Gorilla Glass 3 protection is provided for greater reliability.

Performance

Launched a few years ago, the Galaxy J1 Ace operates on a budget Spreadtrum chipset that runs 2 cores clocked at 1.3 GHz and a Mali 400 video accelerator. The performance of such a chip is not at a high level. However, for internet browsing and playing simple games it is ample.

On the market you will find Galaxy J1 Ace in several modifications. There is also one that is based on a Marvel chip, PXA1908. This processor supports LTE networks and has four cores.

The smartphone has an Android 4.4 operating system. You should know that the standard user interface has been replaced with TouchWIZ.

The RAM in the Samsung Galaxy J1 Ace is quite a bit. We are talking about a minimum of 512 MB, which is insufficient for the simultaneous operation of a large number of programs, as well as for working with complex three-dimensional graphics in games. For normal things - like web browsing, they're enough. On the market you will also find a version with 1 GB of RAM.

The model does not feature a large internal storage either. At best, you'll get 8 GB. The ability to expand it using a memory card up to 64 GB is excellent news. At Samsung, they know how to compensate for the limitation of possibilities through user options.

The South Korean manufacturer has provided support for working with 2 SIM cards.

Cameras

In the Galaxy J1 Ace, the camera is modest - 5 MP. You should not expect miracles. It is equipped with flash and autofocus function. You can take decent photos in good light. The front camera, in turn, is a 2-megapixel one. It is typical for a budget device. However, you won't be able to get presentable selfies with it to be proud of on social media. Rather, you'll be capturing important moments.

Video shooting with the Galaxy J1 Ace will be at 720 pixels resolution at 30 frames per second.

Autonomous operation

The Galaxy J1 Ace's battery is not large and removable - only 1800 mAh. This charge is enough for 5-7 hours of calls, web browsing or video watching. In standby mode, the smartphone can last over a day.

Conclusion

Samsung Galaxy J1 Ace is a typical representative of budget smartphones in 2015. As you can conclude from the specs above, most of the necessary features are present in it. You should approach the modification choice carefully so that it can meet your needs.
