Tecno Pop 5 review

The Tecno Pop 5 is the successor to the popular Pop 4 model, which came on the market in 2020. It is preferred by people with a small budget or those who are not interested in modern smartphone capabilities.

The only exciting thing about the Tecno Pop 5 is the autonomous operation, but we will talk about it later.

Design

Even though the Tecno Pop 5 is a 2021 device, it seems to hold on tight to older notions of bezels around the screen. They are quite wide and noticeable. The good thing about this design decision is that they provide better protection for the case in case of a fall. At the top of the screen, we see a notch that houses the front camera.

On the back panel of the Tecno Pop 5 something more fancy awaits us. The camera unit is in the top left corner. Next to it, the LED flash is placed sympathetically. On the diagonal and slightly downwards you will find the fingerprint scanner. Given the dimensions of the Tecno Pop 5, you'll easily be able to finger it and unlock your device in a split second.

The shaping of the back also contributes to the comfortable handling of the smartphone. It has an interesting graphic drawing, whether you choose the green, blue or black color.

The nicely rounded edges of the body, which is made entirely of plastic, also contribute to the positive evaluation of the Tecno Pop 5's appearance. There are no criticisms of the workmanship.

Display

The Tecno Pop 5 is an inexpensive modern smartphone that comes with a 6.1-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 720 x 1560 pixels. The screen aspect ratio is 19.5:9, taking up just over 76% of the front panel. The latter metric is quite low by modern standards. The maximum brightness of the screen suggests that it will suffice when you're working indoors, but should you decide to read text on a sunny day outdoors, you may experience an impossibility.

Performance

You can see the budget-friendliness of the Tecno Pop 5 by looking at the amount of memory it comes with. The device runs on an unnamed chipset, which consists of a 4-core Cortex-A7 processor clocked up to 1.3 GHz and 1 or 2 GB of RAM. This solution is capable of handling elementary tasks such as telephoning, web browsing, playing simple games and the like. For heavy games and applications, however, it is unthinkable. There is a serious chance that you will be left unsatisfied. The good performance of the Tecno Pop 5 is contributed by the stripped down operating system. The device factory runs Android 10 Go Edition.

We should add that the storage is like something from another time. The smartphone has 16 or 32 GB of internal storage, which you can expand using a memory card. If you are in the habit of creating a lot of videos and photos and downloading apps, the Tecno Pop 5 may not meet your needs.

Cameras

On the rear panel of the Tecno Pop 5 is a dual camera setup consisting of a 5-megapixel sensor and a VGA. Next to them, an LED flash comes to the rescue so that your footage has more colors, details and less noise.

The selfie camera is single and also has an LED flash. The app is simple and intuitive. It's easy to navigate which modes are most efficient and help you create better photos and videos.

These modest parameters suggest that the Tecno Pop 5 is not a model for people who have a vlog or who frequently post photos on social networks. It is not capable of creating masterpieces. Working with heavier photo and video editing applications will slow down its processes.

Autonomous work

We come to the autonomous operation, which often pleases when it comes to a budget device. Weak processor and display requirements contribute to slower charge consumption. The Tecno Pop 5 is equipped with a 4000 mAh lithium-polymer battery, which provides up to two nights of standard use of the device. If you're constantly watching videos or movies, get the charger ready. You'll need it in a few hours.

Conclusion

The Tecno Pop 5 is an excellent choice for undemanding users who are either getting a smartphone for the first time or don't need the advanced features of the more expensive devices on the market. It handles typical phone tasks with ease. Its screen is large enough to read information from it. A plus is the sturdy casing, which doesn't slip in the hands and lowers the risk of damage if accidentally dropped.
