Design

Looking at this Xiaomi model and knowing Apple products, you will immediately make an association with the iPhone X model. The Xiaomi Mi 8 has the same camera placement, an identical notch and several other similar details.

In the appearance of the smartphone makes impressions rear glass panel. It quickly collects traces of the user's fingers. You can easily wipe them off with a cloth, and even more carefree can use the device with a case.

The fingerprint scanner in the Xiaomi Mi 8 is located on the rear panel. On the front, only the front camera, light and proximity sensor, and also a light indicator are left. The scanner works pretty fast. Good news is that there is also a facial recognition scanner on the front panel. This gives the user a choice of which technology to choose to keep their data in safe hands.

This one of the phones on the market that will win you over with its shape and size. Once you hold it in your hand, the convenience is there.

The Chinese manufacturer has tried to diversify the design of the Mi 8. How? By way of colour choices. The user can choose between black, white and blue.

Xiaomi Mi 8 is devoid of a mini jack, similar to what is already known from Mi Mix 2/2S or Mi 6. There is no explanation for this. There is no protection against dust and water. There is no protection against splashes either.

Display

The Xiaomi Mi 8 offers a large and high-quality 6.21-inch AMOLED display with Full HD resolution, 2248 x 1080 pixels. This corresponds to an aspect ratio of 18.7:9. The pixel density - 402 ppi - is far from the records set by smartphones with Quad HD and even 4K-displays.

With the help of the notch, a sense of the presence of very small frames is created. If it's not one of your favourite smartphone design trends, then you can make it invisible. The background of this part of the screen will turn black, only the clock, battery charge and network signal will be visible.

Xiaomi Mi 8's display supports HDR10. The picture is impressive. A real treat for the senses.

The Chinese company has provided its own reading mode. It adapts the color in the warm range more accurately and hence the images become warmer.

The smartphone also supports Always On mode, which is a credit to the AMOLED-matrix.

Traditionally Xiaomi phones feature a not bad oleophobic coating. Thanks to it, the user does not have to constantly clean the screen. Mi 8 makes no exception to this practice.

Performance

Xiaomi Mi 8 is based on a flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, consisting of an 8-core processor with 4 cores Kryo 385 Gold clocked at 2.8 GHz and another 4 Kryo 385 Silver clocked at 1.8 GHz. Graphics are handled by an Adreno 630 accelerator. RAM is 6 GB, which is a good modern benchmark. The internal storage varies - you can choose a modification with 64 or 128 GB. Consider this point well if you have a habit of storing a lot of photos and videos on your phone, since a memory card slot is not provided.

The Mi 8's chipset handles any workload well, whether it's standard usage or playing high-performance games.

Cameras

This Xiaomi model offers dual main cameras - 12 MP, f/1.8, 1/2.55", 1.4µm and optical stabilization + one additional 12 MP module with f/2.4, 56mm, 1/3.4", 1.0µm and dual optical zoom. The front-facing camera is a 20-megapixel with f/2.0 aperture.

Xiaomi Mi 8 handles the day time shots well. The picture comes out nice and juicy. There is a touch of "beautification" which will definitely appeal to users. With the additional main camera, the company is making an emphasis on the portrait mode. There, the popular bokeh effect can be achieved - with background blurring. In addition, the system allows to make "smoothing" of the skin. At the official presentation of the smartphone Xiaomi praised the portrait modes, in which simulation with studio lighting is achieved.

With this smartphone, you can shoot videos with a maximum 4K resolution.

Compared to the Mi MIX 2s, the front camera has been significantly improved. It captures more light. So the photos are more detailed, with HDR dynamic range.

For the Mi 8's cameras, the presence of using artificial intelligence (AI) technology should be highlighted. Without it, launching a modern flagship phone is frivolous. The Chinese manufacturer has placed a dedicated AI button in the camera app. When pressed, the smartphone tries to recognize the scenes and adjust the picture accordingly.

Autonomous operation

The most enjoyable thing about this smartphone is the autonomous operation.

As practice shows, a super large battery is not necessary in a flagship model. The role is already played by software optimization and the chipset. Xiaomi Mi 8 once again confirms this trend. The battery capacity is 3400 mAh. In medium usage mode - about 75% brightness, mobile internet, social networking, email and web browsing, the device provides 6 hours of operation with the screen constantly on.

Xiaomi Mi 8 supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging technology. In half an hour, you can charge the smartphone up to 60% battery charge. Wireless charging is not present.
