Samsung Galaxy J2 Review

In 2015, the South Korean company Samsung enjoyed the success of its flagship smartphones. But what did it offer in budget models? One of its attempts to attract consumers was with the help of the Galaxy J2 model. Its predecessors were the Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J1, which sold well in the market.

The Galaxy J2 has seemingly received rounder edges, a proprietary processor from the company - Exynos 3475 and 1GB of RAM. This configuration runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system, provides 4G data speeds and goes with a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED screen. Among the downsides of the Galaxy J2 is that its cameras can't record Full HD video.

Design

One of the main criticisms of the Galaxy J2 may be that it looks too familiar in appearance. We see nothing new in the design from the Galaxy S3 era. There are no bold changes in its appearance, nor flashy elements as competitors like to bring in the market. Instead, Samsung has chosen the safe route, changing nothing. The body is plastic with soft edges, the back is faux leather. The latter doesn't look bad at all.

The volume control buttons are on the right. Below the display is positioned a large Home button, around which there are touch keys.

The smartphone has dimensions of 136.5 x 69 x 8.4 mm. For this class its dimensions are excellent. The device is thinner than most of its competitors and extremely light. It weighs only 129 grams.

Display

As mentioned earlier, the Galaxy J2 is equipped with a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display. It has been given a modest QHD resolution, resulting in a pixel density per inch of 234. This means there's almost no difference between it and the Galaxy J1's WVGA screen.

Performance

Samsung has equipped the Galaxy J2 with an Exynos 3475 chip. At the user's disposal is a 4-core Cortex-A7 processor with a Mali-T720 GPU. Thanks to it, the smartphone runs without noticeable slowdowns. The 1 GB of RAM and Android-5.1.1 operating system allow applications to be launched relatively quickly. The internal storage is 8 GB. It can be expanded using a microSD memory card up to 256 GB.

The Cortex-A7 processor runs at a clock speed of 1.3 GHz. This is not its maximum. It is available in a 1.6 GHz modification. The video accelerator in turn lags behind the latest offerings on the market.

Cameras

The Galaxy J2's camera user interface is satisfyingly intuitive, familiar o the Galaxy and Galaxy J2 series. The camera itself has been given a modest 5 MP lens with an F/2.2 aperture. The front camera is more modest - just 2 MP. The quality of photos with the main camera will not impress you much. The colors are acceptable, but the dynamic range just doesn't match reality. Noise is also noticeable. The Galaxy J2's camera has poor detail. If you want to get beautiful photos to share on social media, you better shoot on a sunny day.

The Galaxy J2 shoots video at 720 pixels with a maximum frame rate of 30 frames per second. The video has poor detail and mediocre dynamic range.

Autonomous operation

The Samsung Galaxy J2 comes with a 2000 mAh removable battery. Tests show that you can expect a maximum of 64 hours of operation, considering that both SIM cards are used. When limited to one, you can count on more time.

In talk mode, the smartphone will serve you 15 hours. This is a satisfactory indicator, taking into account the size of the battery. To get the most out of the autonomous operation, browse the Internet predominantly on pages with a black background. This uses almost no power at all on AMOLED displays.

Finally, we'll add that the Galaxy J2 will almost guarantee you a full day's work in any case.

Conclusion

The Galaxy J2 offers is a good phone for anyone who has decided to have access to basic features of modern devices for a minimum of money. It has a few premium features, one of which is the oleophobic screen coating.

By buying the Galaxy J2, you get a super slim device with quality craftsmanship. On the downside, you can consider the weak cameras. In terms of performance, the quad-core processor will cover all needs for internet browsing and playing casual games.

Positively on the evaluation of the model affects the sound quality. With the Galaxy J2 in hand, you will enjoy excellent sound for this price range. When connected to an external amplifier, the smartphone displays a medium level of volume and superb clear sound.
