Tecno Camon 19 review

As someone who appreciates a good camera, it's great to see that the Camon series still puts such a strong emphasis on it. But it's not just the camera that has improved - the design, battery life and display have also undergone remarkable improvements. At a price of Rs 14,999, it's hard to find many flaws in this phone. Tecno Camon 19 Design

From personal experience, I can confirm that the design of Tecno Camon 19 is quite attractive. The smartphone boasts of a unique look that sets itself apart from other devices in the market. The manufacturer seems to have focused on a few design elements such as thin bezels, a bezel-less camera module, flat edges and a starry sky back panel that make the smartphone attractive.
The front of the device features a thin bezel and a small notch for the camera at the top center of the screen, which is a classic design choice. However, the thickness of the display bezel varies in some places, making it difficult to measure its exact size. Nevertheless, the overall look is sleek and modern.

Moving on to the rear panel of the device, I was impressed by the camera modules, which the manufacturer calls "frameless". Instead of the traditional square bumps, the modules feature two large metal-lined holes that are positioned vertically on the top left of the device. While not everyone may like the look, it is something special and definitely highlights the smartphone's features. Moreover, the texture of the rear panel resembles a starry night sky and spills out precisely from the camera modules, which is a nice touch.

Overall, the TECNO Camon 19 has a solid body made of polycarbonate and is comfortable to carry in hand despite its large display.

On the right side of the device are the volume buttons and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, which also serves as the power button. On the left is the tray for two nano-SIM cards, and on the top and bottom are the USB-C charging port, headphone jack, speaker grill and the two microphones. The stereo effect the phones create with the earpiece and downward-facing speaker is suitable for casual listening.

The overall design of the Tecno Camon 19 is not only beautiful, but also functional. The smartphone feels great in use and certainly looks like a premium smartphone.

Tecno Camon 19 Camera

I have to say that the Tecno Camon 19 does not disappoint when it comes to the camera. The manufacturer has clearly paid great attention to the smartphone's cameras and it shows. The main unit has three cameras: a wide-angle module, a depth sensor for bokeh and an artificial intelligence module. Essentially, though, there's only one working camera you can shoot with.
The resolution of this module is an impressive 64 MP with f/1.7 aperture, 1/1.7" sensor size and 0.8 µm pixel size. It also uses an RGBW sensor that captures more light for brighter images. By default, photos are recorded at 16MP resolution, but you can select 64MP directly on the shooting screen. Shooting at full resolution is ideal for low-light conditions, while standard definition looks better on a clear, sunny day.

In the right level of lighting, the Camon 19 can capture good quality photos with correct colours and detail. Auto HDR comes into play in complex scenes, but can be hit or miss, making the photo look unnatural. For night shots, night mode works wonders, adding more detail and reducing noise.

The front camera is also impressive, with a 16MP sensor that captures natural and normal color rendition. Video recording on both the front and rear cameras can reach a maximum resolution of 2K at a frame rate of 30 FPS. However, no electronic or optical stabilization is available.

Overall, I am impressed with the camera capabilities of the Tecno Camon 19. The standard camera app offers a variety of shooting modes including beauty, portrait, super night mode, manual Pro mode and more. Additionally, the new Sky Shop mode allows you to change the sky background of your photos.

Tecno Camon 19 Display

I have to say that the Tecno Camon 19's display is quite impressive. With the large 6.8-inch IPS LCD display with Full HD+ resolution, I was able to enjoy all my multimedia content with ease. The aspect ratio is a bit unconventional at 20.5:9, but that didn't bother me. Additionally, the pixel density of approximately 395 PPI ensured that everything looked crisp and clear.
I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the screen is TÜV Rheinland certified, which means it emits less blue light. As someone who spends a lot of time on my phone, this was a great added bonus to protect my eyes.

While the display doesn't have any standout features, such as a high refresh rate, the colors are very rich and there's plenty of contrast, especially for an IPS panel. In fact, I'd say the colors are even more saturated than some AMOLED screens in similarly priced smartphones. It's really quite impressive and makes for a great visual experience.

One small downside is that the maximum brightness level could have been a bit higher. It was adequate for using the phone on a sunny day, but the direct sunlight made visibility a bit difficult. However, the minimum brightness level was just fine and there is even an additional dimming option that was really useful when using the phone in the dark. There's also a feature that dims a selected area of the screen, which was useful when using the phone in public or on public transport.

Tecno Camon 19 Performance

In my experience with the Tecno Camon 19, I found its mid-range SoC - the MediaTek Helio G85 - to be quite efficient. The smartphone responds quickly to all my demands, and apps launch quickly. However, I noticed that occasionally the system animation stutters, which can affect the overall speed of the device. However it works fine for everyday tasks.
In terms of gaming, the device performs decently. I can play most games without any issues, but when it comes to complex, resource-intensive projects, it's best to avoid maxing out graphics settings and not turning on all effects at once. Medium or medium-high settings work best, and in some cases low settings are also used.

The TECNO Camon 19 comes with up to 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of memory, which is more than enough for most users. The memory SWAP feature allows you to turn some of the memory into virtual RAM when needed, providing additional system stability. The smartphone also has a dedicated microSD memory card slot, allowing for easy memory expansion.

The device is equipped with HiOS 8.6.0 and Android 12 straight out of the box. HiOS 8.6.0 features a new design, improved user interface and a range of new features that enhance the overall user experience.

Tecno Camon 19 Battery

The battery capacity of the Tecno Camon 19 is 5000 mAh, which is pretty standard nowadays. However, I was impressed with how long it lasted during my use. With moderate use I managed to get almost two full days out of it, which I think is a very good result. I used it for about 34-36 hours with a total of 10 hours of screen time and still had a decent battery charge left at the end of the day.

Overall the Tecno Camon 19 has a decent battery life and can last almost two days with moderate use. The 18W power adapter and fast charging is a nice addition, although the charging speed is not very impressive. If you're looking for a phone with a long battery life, the Tecno Camon 19 is definitely worth considering.

Tecno Camon 19 Software

The phone runs the latest version of Android, which is always a good sign, and the manufacturer's proprietary skin, HiOS 8.6, is definitely a step up from previous versions. I appreciate the visual changes that have been made to HiOS as they have made the user experience of this phone much more enjoyable.

One of the things that impressed me about the pre-installed apps was the uniform style in which they were made. It gave the phone a sleek and polished look. However, I found that there were a lot of pre-installed apps, some of which I didn't need. Fortunately, most of them could be uninstalled, and the ones that couldn't could be disabled.

Where the software really shines is in the number of features available. There's a game mode, on-screen gestures, an AI assistant and even a customisable child mode. The built-in assistant also has a call recording option, which can be useful for those important phone calls.

During my daily use of the phone, I found it to be smooth and work decently. It handled the usual apps and games without any issues. For more demanding games, however, you may need to lower the graphics settings to get decent performance.

Tecno Camon 19 Price

When I first heard about the TECNO Camon 19, I was excited to see what this device had to offer. As someone who uses my smartphone for everything from taking pictures to keeping in touch with friends and family, I was curious to see how well this device would perform. I was especially interested in the price, as I wanted a phone that was affordable but still packed with features.

In researching the Camon 19, I found that there were a few different models. Although the Pro version is the most expensive, I was more interested in the classic Camon 19 and the alternative 19 Neo. When it came to the Camon 19, the review unit I tested retailed for around 250 USD. That price seemed reasonable to me for a phone with 6/128 GB of RAM/memory. I also noticed that another 4/128 GB version is available, but availability seems to vary by region.

Tecno Camon 19 Conclusion

In my personal experience, the Tecno Camon 19 is a great mid-range smartphone. I was immediately attracted to its sleek and stylish design that sets it apart from other smartphones in its price range. The high-quality IPS display offers crisp and clear images, making it enjoyable to use for everyday tasks such as browsing social networks and streaming videos.
The phone also has a good level of performance for everyday use, so I never experienced any lag while using it. The large amount of memory allowed me to store all my important files and photos without having to constantly delete old ones.

Speaking of photos, the camera on this phone is impressive for a mid-range device. The quality of the photos I took was surprisingly good, and I was pleasantly surprised by the clarity and brightness of the images.

However, there are a few areas where the manufacturer could make some improvements. The sound quality of the main speaker could be better, and stereo sound would be welcome. Additionally, charging could be faster, especially considering that many other manufacturers now offer 25W and more powerful chargers.

PROS:

  • Good camera
  • Good battery life
  • Large storage capacity

MINUSES:

  • No AMOLED display
  • 18W power adapter
