Xiaomi Redmi 9 Review

Without much ado, the Chinese manufacturer has upgraded its Redmi series of budget devices to version 9. Thus, Redmi 9 and its simplified version Redmi 9A are now available on the market. Budget phones always sell well, and given the financial crisis, affordable models have become more in demand. Xiaomi took advantage of this and immediately offered a modern cheap smartphone with interesting technical capabilities. What can the Redmi 9 specifically win you over with? We immediately share its pros and cons.

Design

Typical of budget models, the Redmi 9 has a plastic body, on which, however, the traces of fingerprints and dirt are practically not visible. The smartphone looks relatively expensive and quality made. A large teardrop notch has been created for the front camera. The camera is single and no LED indicator is provided next to it.

This Xiaomi model can be found in the market in three colours - dark grey, blue-purple and green. It does not have a full-fledged body protection against moisture and dust.

Display

The Redmi 9 smartphone comes with a 6.53-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1080 x 2340, covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protective glass. The physical dimensions of the screen are 70 x 151 mm and the aspect ratio is 19.5:9. The pixel density per inch is 395. The bezel width around the Redmi 9's screen is 3.5mm on the sides, 5mm on the top and 8mm on the bottom. The bezel, by modern measures, is wide. Overall, the device compact and comfortable to carry.

Performance

Redmi 9 runs on a single-core Mediatek Helio G80 system. The SoC configuration includes 8 processor cores: 2 Cortex-A75 2.0 GHz cores and 6 Cortex-A55 1.8 GHz cores. The Mali-G52 GPU is responsible for the graphics: 2 cores at up to 950 MHz.

RAM is 3, 4 or 6 GB and storage is 32, 64 or 128 GB. The user can use a memory card to increase the internal memory. In this case, he will not do without one of the SIM card slots.

The Redmi 9 supports connecting to external devices via USB Type-C port in USB OTG mode.

Cameras

This smartphone has 4 lenses on its back, however, you won't find a telephoto lens among them. Of the four modules, only two are full-fledged - the main and the ultra-wide angle (13 MP and 8 MP), while the other two with minimal parameters - 2 MP and 5 MP. The latter work as a sensor for measuring the depth of the frame and a macro lens with low resolution. There's no dedicated mode for night shots in the Redmi 9.

The main module has a 1/3.1″ sensor. Its PDAF phase-detection autofocus lens focuses very quickly. There is no stabilization.

The Redmi 9's video camera shoots at a maximum resolution of 1090 pixels at 30 frames per second. The manufacturer has not provided the option to shoot in 4K. During shooting, the user can zoom in smoothly. This option is not available in most budget smartphones.

The Redmi 9's selfie camera, having an 8-megapixel module and an f/2.0 lens, offers a good picture, though the sensor of this camera does not have a wide dynamic range. Portrait mode with background blur using artificial intelligence works adequately.

Autonomous operation

Redmi 9 has a large capacity battery by today's standards. What brings down the autonomous performance metric is the budget Mediatek platform, which is known to consume power unreasonably. In this case, the Redmi 9 can't offer the record autonomy, but the class average benchmarks are there. In real life, with this phone in hand, you'll enjoy a full day of operation.

Conclusion

The Redmi 9 will win you over by offering a beautifully crafted and quality body. The smartphone runs on a relatively decent platform that will appeal to gamers. The Redmi 9 surprises with its capabilities in terms of mobile gaming. The sound and cameras are at an average level. The manufacturer has offered NFC.

The large screen with normal high resolution with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection offers a satisfactory brightness margin. The large battery doesn't prove to be a record breaker in terms of performance, but will definitely cover the requirements of most users in terms of autonomous operation.

Redmi 9 is the perfect choice for people who don't like to shell out extra money for flagship goodies. The smartphone is suitable for children. A serious plus is the ability to use a memory card simultaneously with 2 SIM cards. The color palette makes it ideal for men and women.
